Why RPass Chrome Extension Falls Short of Expectations

Google Chrome's extensions , such as password managers, provide users with enhanced browsing experience, privacy settings, and online security . However, not all extensions are created equal. The RPass Chrome extension , a chrome password manager , has received an aggregate rating of 2.86 out of 5, indicating user dissatisfaction. This article delves into the reasons behind this low rating and why you might want to consider alternatives for secure password storage and privacy protection.

Major Shortcomings of RPass Chrome Extension

User reviews of the RPass chrome extension have pointed out several significant issues. Many users, like Joshua Skrzypek, have pointed out that the password manager extension has major issues, including limitations with password characters that result in the tool dropping certain symbols. This characteristic contradicts the purpose of a browser privacy tool, which should offer flexibility and security in password creation for enhanced internet privacy.

Other users, like Kelsie Spencer and Derick Johnson, have pointed out that the tool frequently faces loading issues and requires the user to log in daily, rendering it inconvenient and inefficient for secure browsing. Furthermore, it's evident from reviews by Sam Awan and Richard Graves that the extension is often buggy, gates access to everything, and is prone to freezing, undermining the tool's purpose of providing online safety, browser security, and web security.

User Feedback: The Positive and the Negative

While there are critical reviews, some users like Harshit Kedia have reported that the RPass Chrome extension works well. However, these positive reviews are heavily outweighed by the negative feedback. Critically, Frank Hernandez describes the tool as one of the worst password managers he has ever used due to its slow response, buggy performance, and poor field detection. Such feedback suggests that the RPass does not meet the essential requirements of a top chrome extension for privacy and security.

Our Take on RPass Chrome Extension

Given the feedback from users and the low aggregate rating, we advise against installing the RPass Chrome extension. While it aims to provide privacy tools and secure password storage, user reviews have highlighted major flaws in its functionality and user experience. There are alternatives available that offer a more reliable user experience, better privacy settings, and improved chrome password security.

For those in need of a reliable and efficient chrome password manager extension, tools such as BitWarden, 1Password, or even LastPass offer superior services. These chrome privacy extensions receive higher user ratings, demonstrating their ability to provide secure browsing, improved internet security, and privacy protection. Unlike RPass, these extensions ensure that your password manager is not just an icon in the field but a dependable tool for online safety.

Causes problems with page performance and has started overlaying invisible windows on the top right of websites so you cannot interact with part of your website. Contacting support also requires you be a Company Admin, not a good user experience.

Bare minimum but works

Adam Burnett

Pick the absolute bare minimum you would expect from a password manager and this is it.

Van Duc Nguyen

It is slow and unresponsive. Additionally, the search functionality is poor, as it struggles to return matches for words located in the middle of text.

Vasudev Krishnan

Rpass password management is buggy. not very user friendly. There is a big GAP in making the user aware of, what happens when they confirm an action.

Mathew Jung

This app is not feature complete. We will continue to use 1Password.

Allen Hancock

Hard to tell how to see all the notes which are inside any given entry. Window closes when I wasn't expecting it to, causing me to start over. Garbage.

Shaun Richardson

Quite possibly the poorest password manager I've seen. I was told it could replace 1pass, NO WAY, it doesn't even support MFA codes or custom fields. Apple's new password manager that came with iOS 18 is way better and it's FREE.

Connor Brinton

Only works on chrome internal pages, never works on the websites to which I need to authenticate. Forces me to jump between tabs to copy paste the email, password and 2FA code. Very inconvenient

Mackenzie Copley

Errors all over the place

Saran Siva

Don'd trust RPass. Switch to something better. I lost the vault multiple times and finally ditched RPass

Love Rippling, but this password maanger is super glitchy and makes it difficult to share between teams. I hope they upgrade it soon.

Andrea Ruggiero

It was meant to save time and speed the signing in to different sites. But it constantly fails, forgets the password even after manually correcting it and saving it to the site several times. Not Good Needs to be worked on.

Joris Straatman

Unfortunately RPass looses access to the vault each time you need to change the Rippling password. Only remembering your old password allows to recover the complete vault. This makes the tool very troublesome to use and has caused a lot of frustration in our company because of lost passwords... A password manager should help to keep passwords and not loose them every few months IMHO.

Would be nice if it worked consistently. Having to log back in every.single.time. is tiresome and really lame. Really low effort put into this extension that only works sometimes. *Dropped to 1-star because now it logs me out as soon as I've used it one time. Terrible work y'all. Absolutely awful.

When its working it can definitely make it easy for teams to share passwords, its nice not to have to remember FedEx login for example. But with many sites, like Delta.com, it never works. Then sometimes it will stop working entirely and prompt you to "enter your password" before it allows you to log in with any saved passwords. But when you follow the steps the extension gives you nothing is solved. So basically not useful most of the time

It works....but it's also apparently poorly made. I've been using it for a few weeks but as of a few days ago, it has caused chrome to freeze up almost continually. I turned off all of my extensions and then systematically went through them one by one, turning them on and testing. Sure enough, Rpass was the one that was causing the freezing. None of the other extensions did this. I paid how much $$$ to Rippling and I can't even use the password manager?

Shawn Malkou

Works great for some sites and not so great for others. Since the new Chrome Update last week, Rpass seems to be broken. You have to keep removing and readding it for Rpass to recognize you as logged in. Hopefully a fix gets implemented ASAP

Zach Feldman

I'm having the same issue as Erin. I have to keep removing the extension and re-adding it for it to recognize that I am logged in and auto-fill passwords. There's also no way to fill in basic HTTP passwords like with Bitwarden. I wish it worked better because it's what my company uses for PW management! Rippling, can you throw more resources at this please?

Kyrylo Silin

It's okay but I want this for Safari, not Chrome. ?

Joshua Skrzypek

There are some major issues with the way this extension works. When you paste in a password, if it contains a '<' symbol, the extension silently drops any characters between it and the next `>` (inclusive, drops the text through the end of the password if no '>' is present). Limitations to password characters should NOT come from the password manager!!
